A one-day course for counsellors, nurses, managers and practitioners who want to gain skills and confidence as facilitators of critical incident debriefings

 

The harmful effects of critical incidents are well known and can include anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance and fatigue. In the workplace this can lead to reduced efficiency, motivation and morale as well as unsafe practice.

 

Critical Incident Debriefings are intensive and effective interventions, and skilled debrief facilitators are a valuable asset to any organisation.

 

This course will enable you to offer debriefing sessions to individuals or groups, in your organisation or as a private service.

If you want to gain the knowledge and skills to become a confident and effective debrief facilitator - this course is for you.

10:00 - 11:00        Understanding Critical Incidents

Defining Critical Incidents, what makes an incident ‘critical’?

The possible impact of a critical incident on an individual and a group.

 

11:00 - 11:15        Coffee break

 

11:15 - 12:15        The Process of Debriefing

The theory and practice of debriefing, including techniques and sequences, and psychological benefits.

 

12:15 - 12:45        Overview and discussion

 

12:45 - 13:30        Lunch break

 

13:30 - 14:15        Facilitating a critical incident debriefing - theory

The role of the facilitator, the qualities and skills of the competent facilitator  

 

14:15 - 15:00        Facilitating a critical incident debriefing - practice
